The Case of the Disappearing & Reappearing Trash Cans

This trash receptacle was back in place after a one day absence

Three city trash receptacles in the Boca business area were overflowing on Friday, emptied on Saturday, taken away by an L.A. Sanitation worker on Monday, and returned to their places on Tuesday.

The Canyon Alliance Board Member Sharon Kilbride led the charge to get the receptacles back to their locations at 130 W. Channel Rd., 301 Entrada, and Entrada Ocean Avenue.

“Two of them are next to … bus stops … [and] are used by beachgoers and our community on a daily basis so it makes no sense to me why they would’ve removed them,” Kilbride said in an email to Marian Ensley, the field deputy for Mayor Karen Bass, in her initial attempt to get them returned to the Canyon

Kilbride also phoned L.A. Sanitation, and the representative put in a request to return the three receptacles to the Canyon.

“She was baffled about why they removed the receptacles and even spoke to her supervisor so they are finding out why they were taken,” Kilbride said.

After a day of absence, the three missing trash receptacles returned to their places on July 21.

“All three bins magically reappeared,” Kilbride said.

Unfortunately, they weren’t replaced with new or clean receptacles. The old, well-used ones were returned, according to Kilbride.
