Canyon Square will be filled with the folk music of singer/guitarist Michael Cec on Halloween from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

“It will be very much a folk and ‘90s cover songs fusion-style set—perfect for a fall day I would think,” Cec said.

Cec, a street busker who has also performed at Colorado’s famed Red Rocks as the opening act for the Latin rock band Maná, grew up listening to ‘90s-era bands while also being immersed in the sounds of Colorado folk music. In September, Cec moved to Los Angeles and then happened upon Canyon Square while biking past with his fiancé. At the time, a jazz duo was performing, and he dropped off his card for Square owner Frank Langen, who invited him to play.

“I looked at his Instagram and enjoyed his music,” Langen said. “I was also especially taken with his love letter to Colorado. So, now we get to benefit from his music.”

Cec’s guitar style envelops the listener with his melodic and inviting riffs, while his voice is warm and welcoming. Over the years, he has developed his skills by playing for passersby on Colorado sidewalks, which is how Maná first heard him and invited him to perform at Red Rocks. Cec continues to prefer performing live to crafting recorded music, although he has several albums available on Spotify and YouTube.

“It was never really in the big plan to pursue music beyond the street,” Cec said. “But, as the years went on and it became increasingly fulfilling, it slowly became more my full sense of purpose.”
