Defending the Canyon—Stories from a Panel of Local Heroes
A panel of volunteers who fought to save the Canyon from the Palisades Fire will share their tales on Aug. 25 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Mojica Theater in Santa Monica Canyon.
The free event orchestrated by the La Señora Research Institute will be moderated by Mesa Rd. resident Mike Deasy, who will talk with Kevin Keim, Sean Hayn, Skip Clark, and Blair Bedford.
“When the evacuation orders came, some made the critical decision to stay and defend, while others used their local knowledge to find a way back inside, where their abilities, determination, and grit would be tools to save our precious Canyons,” according to the event website. “This is not just their story of standing their ground, hunting down wind & airborne embers ready to ignite our homes; it's a story expressing their love for our communities and their belief that their efforts might prevent the devastation in the Canyon that was already apparent on the upper Palisades.”
The panel discussion will include first-hand accounts of ttheir challenging fight, the tactical decisions that saved properties, and the vital lessons our neighborhood can carry forward into the future of wildfire preparedness, according to the website.
Space is limited in La Senora's small theater, so please register here in order to secure a seat.
