Tim Hayn’s concert on the anniversary of the Palisades Fire attracted a substantial crowd to Canyon Square on Wednesday.
“Everybody was very appreciative, and the music was fantastic,” said Frank Langen, who owns the Square.
”Tim not only has the heart and courage of a lion, but his music is beautiful and thoughtful…. It wasn’t a celebration in the usual sense, but it was a venue of a shared experience. Lots of appreciative Palisadians there as well who lost everything.”
Hayn, who fought the fire with his brother, Sean, to protect Canyon homes, ended the concert with a stripped-down acoustic version of his new song, Home, which he wrote about the fire during a break from firefighting last January. (See previous article on Hayn here.)
“I actually got emotional during that particular performance and almost got choked up, but I powered through and really thought it went well,” Hayn said later. “It was a lovely gathering of community, and the vibes were immaculate. Love and gratitude filled the air.”
Sharon Kilbride, a Boca resident who represents Santa Monica and Rustic Canyons on the Pacific Palisades Community Council, was able to attend some of the show and was impressed.
“A good crowd was there supporting the band,” Kilbride said. “They were very talented, and it was great to see everybody coming together on the special day.”
Kilbride began her remembrance day at 6 a.m. at the American Legion, where she received a certificate of appreciation, an American flag, and a gold medallion to recognize her service to the Palisades community during and after the Palisades Fire.

Councilmember Traci Park, Calif. Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, and Calif. Sen. Ben Allen spoke at the gathering, and, after a somber procession to the Village Green, a public ceremony further honored the 12 individuals who lost their lives in the fire. Family members of the 12 attended the ceremony, and, as a sixth generation descendant of the Marquez and Reyes families who moved to the area in the late 1700s, Kilbride was one of the speakers.
“With heavy hearts, the Marquez and Reyes families extend our deepest condolences on this one-year anniversary of the most devastating Palisades Fire,” Kilbride said in her speech. “We stand in solidarity with you in honor of the profound loss felt by this community.”
In the evening, Kilbride was among the attendees at Rick Caruso‘s Palisades Village event, at which three lights rose into the sky to mark the three devastated areas: Malibu, Palisades and Altadena.
