The Pacific Palisades Community Council recently released results from its commissioned resident survey about a host of rebuilding issues ranging from construction plans to insurance concerns.

The survey, which was conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago, can be found at this link. NORC first conducted six one-hour focus groups with 6-8 residents each, then sent an online questionnaire to approximately 10,000 households, according to the report.

The online survey, which was conducted from Sept. 11 to Oct. 25 last year, asked questions about varied issues, including rebuilding costs, environmental concerns, and fire safety infrastructure upgrades, including “buried utility lines, upgraded water systems, and emergency access routes,” according to the report. Sixty-four percent of survey respondents noted that a reasonable timeline to complete infrastructure improvements was either within six months to a year or 1-2 years..

Some of residents’ policy priorities cited in the report included addressing financial barriers, especially insurance, ensuring environmental safety, prioritizing fire safety and resilient infrastructure, and accelerating infrastructure rebuilding.

Seventy-two percent of respondents were living outside of Pacific Palisades at the time of the survey, but 55 percent of respondents planned to still call the town their home in 2035. About a third were uncertain about their future plans, while 12 percent planned to reside somewhere else a decade later.
