An 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the eastern coast of Russia has caused NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) to issue a tsunami advisory for all of the California coast.
The advisory means that people should stay away from beaches and waterways due to strong currents and waves. The warning was originally a lesser watch, but was upgraded to an advisory around 6:30 p.m. If a tsunami occurs locally, it would strike at approximately 1:05 a.m., according to NOAA.
According to USGS (United States Geological Survey), the quake was 8.8 in magnitude and struck at a depth of 12.86 miles east of Kamchatka at 4:24 PT. Dozens of aftershocks were registered.
