Love will be in the air at Canyon Square next week

Florist Stephanie Schur will offer cut flowers, bouquets, and varied arrangements just in time for Valentine’s Day delivery. A former Canyon resident, Schur works with her partner, Tad Jacobs, during the winter holidays to provide Christmas trees, cut greenery, poinsettias, and paper whites to Canyonites. However, this year will be her first time bringing Valentine’s offerings to the Canyon Square location.

In December, “I had the best time,” Schur said. “I love everyone in the Canyon, and so many people said, ‘I wish you were here all the time.’”

For a week, she will be. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from on Feb. 9 through Valentine’s Day, Schur will offer small, medium, and large arrangements that can be pre-ordered for delivery. In addition to locally sourced garden roses, she hopes to have anemones, dinner-plate dahlias, and. In addition, she will search out native flowers that commonly grow in Southern California.

“Local flowers are really beautiful, special, and unique,” Schur said. “I try to get as much variety and as many unusual flowers as I can.”

Since childhood, Schur has had a deep love for flowers. While studying at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, she took a job at a flower shop, and the work delighted her.

“I fell in love,” said Schur, who now lives in Topanga Canyon. “I love being around all the different varieties of flowers. They’re so incredibly beautiful. It’s an artistic job, and there are limitless ways to create arrangements for people. I love it.”

Until about a decade ago, Schur, who grew up in Nevada, owned the flower shop Botany in Brentwood Country Mart, which she operated for five years. Two years ago, she set up and managed Gjusta Flower Shop in Venice, and she has also worked as a freelance wedding florist for 15 years. Last year, one of those weddings was featured in Vogue magazine.

For her new Canyon Square venture, Schur recommends that customers order their arrangements at least a day ahead of time or earlier if possible. She plans to set up a tent for the flowers and sample arrangements, and purchasers can choose their delivery times and days.

“There aren’t a lot of flower shops anymore, so I thought it would be nice to bring them to the Canyon for Valentine’s Day,” Schur said.
