Roosevelt Tunnel & Northbound Bike Path Temporarily Closed on Oct. 6

Boca resident Sharon Kilbride found that both the Roosevelt Tunnel, which crosses under PCH to Will Rogers State Beach, and the northbound beach bike trail were closed Oct. 6.

”This is totally unacceptable, and no advance warning was given so we’re gonna have a lot of people trying to cross the highway, which is totally a disaster,” Kilbride said in an email.

L.A. County Public Works responded an email requesting information about the closure with this link to a webpage about the project.

The site didn’t mention precise times or lengths for any upcoming closures, but it did note that crews would conducting “extremely loud” sheet pile driving as part of the bike path and channel restoration between Oct. 2–17 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

As part of this construction, residents should expect:

  • Temporary no parking signs

  • Periodic beach access closures (emergency access remains open)

  • Traffic delays near the project area

Trail access is supposed to remain open at all times during construction, according to the webpage, although it was closed temporarily on Oct. 6.

The public relations officer did not respond to a request that Public Works provide advance notice of upcoming closures.
