Concrete Debris Cleanup of Flood Channel Has Begun
LA County Public Works has begun the cleanup of the Santa Monica Canyon Channel, which filled with concrete debris during this week’s storms.
The cleanup will consist of breaking and removing loose and damaged concrete from the channel, then transporting the broken concrete to the dead-end cul-de-sac near Amalfi Dr. where an excavator will lift the concrete from the channel and load it into trucks for removal to a disposal site, according to an L.A. County Public Works information sheet.
“Approximately 40 truckloads of material are expected to be removed,” according to the county. “During active removal operations, up to 8–10 truckloads per day may leave the area. Residents near the cul-de-sac may see construction equipment and trucks in that area during work hours. Disposal trucks will be staged in a nearby beach parking lot along Pacific Coast Highway to minimize congestion.”
The work may take 4-5 weeks and will take place seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the county. Crews will coordinate traffic to maintain resident and emergency vehicle access, and the channel will be accessed by heavy equipment near 13131 W. Sunset..
