City Council Considers Palisades Issues: Recovery District & License Plate Cameras
The Los Angeles City Council’s Recovery Committee approved Councilmember Traci Park’s plan to create a Disaster Recovery District for Pacific Palisades, according to Park.
This is an “effort that can help raise millions in incremental tax financing to help support rebuilding efforts,” according to Park.
The DRD plan will next be considered by Budget Committee before going to the full City Council.
Automated license plate reader cameras were also discussed by the council.
“I opposed efforts to stall and delay implementation of our Real Time Crime Center technology, like our automated license plate reader cameras, which in CD11 already helped intercept a homicide suspect, locate a missing child, identify the suspect in a drive-by shooting in Mar Vista Gardens, and locate the vehicle involved in an armed robbery in Westchester,” Park said in her newsletter. “Any data collected is owned exclusively by the City, and is not shared with federal agencies. With LAPD staffing at dangerously low levels, these tools are critical force multipliers that help LAPD deter and more effectively solve local crimes.”
