Resilient Palisades Co-organizes Environmental Workshop
Resilient Palisades helped organize an upcoming bioremediation training to aid people affected by the Palisades and Eaton fires.
The four-hour event on Aug. 3 is designed to help attendees better understand both the fires’ impacts on local soil and water and how to address those impacts through bioremediation. Participants can “engage with a collective of scientists, mycologists, environmental advocates and community organizers dedicated to healing the fire-impacted landscapes of Los Angeles, Altadena and the Southern California region,” according to the promotional materials.
Topics to be covered include:
Contaminants of concern after the fire
Safety and hazardous materials
Fire impacts on soil and water
Bioremediation foundations
Basic fungal biology
Interpreting soil test results
Interactions between soil, plants, microbes and fungi, and soil microbial community dynamics.
Soil and water (hydrogeology) considerations post-fire
Environmental engineering (permits/regulations) for remediation
Remediation types
Past studies on post-fire remediation
Practical tools: Site assessments, Soil Sampling, Using & Interpreting XRF, Wattles & other soil interventions.
The event will occur in Pasadena from 5-9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3. To register, visit this link. The cost is $25 or email info@caer.earth for a free or discounted ticket.
