Resilient Palisades Co-organizes Environmental Workshop

Resilient Palisades helped organize an upcoming bioremediation training to aid people affected by the Palisades and Eaton fires.

The four-hour event on Aug. 3 is designed to help attendees better understand both the fires’ impacts on local soil and water and how to address those impacts through bioremediation. Participants can “engage with a collective of scientists, mycologists, environmental advocates and community organizers dedicated to healing the fire-impacted landscapes of Los Angeles, Altadena and the Southern California region,” according to the promotional materials.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Contaminants of concern after the fire

  • Safety and hazardous materials

  • Fire impacts on soil and water

  • Bioremediation foundations

  • Basic fungal biology

  • Interpreting soil test results

  • Interactions between soil, plants, microbes and fungi, and soil microbial community dynamics.

  • Soil and water (hydrogeology) considerations post-fire

  • Environmental engineering (permits/regulations) for remediation

  • Remediation types

  • Past studies on post-fire remediation

  • Practical tools: Site assessments, Soil Sampling, Using & Interpreting XRF, Wattles & other soil interventions.

The event will occur in Pasadena from 5-9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3. To register, visit this link. The cost is $25 or email info@caer.earth for a free or discounted ticket.
