Beginning on Aug. 27, L.A. County Public Works plans to start five-to-six weeks of removal of concrete overlay from the Santa Monica Canyon Channel.

The work follows a deluge of concrete overlay slabs that came loose and clogged the creek during a Feb. 16 storm. Over the following month, the slabs were removed by Public Works..

“Before the upcoming storm season, Public Works will loosen and remove additional concrete overlay to help prevent uncontrolled debris buildup in the Santa Monica Channel,” according to an information sheet from Public Works.

The additional concrete removal will occur in the channel between the Riviera Country Club and PCH on weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., according to Public Works. Crews will coordinate traffic control and access the channel from an upstream access ramp near 13131 W. Sunset. They will then work their way down the channel toward the coast to loosen and remove the overlay.

For questions regarding this project, contact Public Works Civil Engineer Jason Rietze at (626) 819-1922 or email him at JRietze@dpw.lacounty.gov during weekday work hours. For after-hours assistance, contact LA County Public Works 24-hour Dispatch Center at (800) 675-HELP (4357).

L.A. Public Works will loosen and remove concrete overlay from the portion of the channel indicated above.
