Councilwoman Traci Park to Host Town Hall on Traffic and Safety on Thursday, May 22
Los Angeles City Councilwoman Traci Park has announced she will be holding an online Town Hall meeting for all of the Palisades, include the Canyon, on Thursday, May 22nd from 4:00pm–5:30pm.
Topics to be covered in the meeting will include the upcoming re-opening of PCH, other changes to Palisades access on Canyon streets, public safety and security, and long-term resilience. Representatives will be present from the Los Angeles Police Department, L.A. Emergency Medical Services, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), which operates Route 1 / Pacific Coast Highway, has previously announced that by May 31, PCH will be re-opened to the general public, with one travel lane in each direction. Canyon businesses and residents will be eager to know what this means for the Chautauqua/West Channel/PCH intersection.
Even if the PCH checkpoints are removed, new checkpoints operated by the City of Los Angeles may be imposed on West Channel and Chautauqua. Operation of any City checkpoints would be managed by the Los Angeles Department of Transportation and controlled by LAPD. Is there a traffic management plan in place? What impacts might these closures have on traffic operations on city streets? Might there be backups throughout the Canyon as occurred earlier in the spring? Canyon residents business owners are encouraged to attend to make sure any new security protocols do not jeopardize traffic safety and business operations in the Canyon.
