Speed Humps Will Be Installed in Front of Canyon Elementary on Friday
Two speed humps will be installed Friday, Oct. 10, in front of Canyon Charter Elementary School on Entrada Dr., according to Eric Maya, a transportation engineer with the city’s Speed Hump Program.
To accommodate the installation, “Entrada Dr. will be closed to through traffic between Channel Rd. and Amalfi Dr. from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.,” said Maya, noting that City Councilwoman Traci Park’s office requested the speed humps..
A nearby resident, who preferred not to be quoted by name, said neighbors living along Entrada are grateful that the traffic slowing humps will be installed, but they also asked that others be placed along the next block of Entrada between Amalfi and Stassi Lane, where “unsafe traffic” can be a hazard.
“The unsafe drivers tend to be beyond the school from Amalfi to Stassi, not the block in front of the school, which has a stop sign and a red light, so there’s a little bit of disappointment by the residents that the speed humps aren’t extended throughout the school zone,” the neighbor said. “The residents that live along the road requested the speed humps along the whole school zone…. The city just put in the funding for the one block.”
Arus Grigoryan, a senior field deputy for City Councilwoman Traci Park, said the office has received emails and calls from residents requesting “more mobility improvement projects and additional speed humps. We are communicating with our department and advocating for these improvements should funding become available.”
