Community Council Meets Thursday on Project Chimney and Rebuilding Survey

The Pacific Palisades Community Council will meet May 8 at 6 p.m. via Zoom at this link to consider a motion to survey Palisadians about the town’s rebuilding.

If passed, the motion would provide $50,000 toward a $172,750 survey that would assess Palisades community opinion regarding the reconstruction of Pacific Palisades.

In addition, Pali High’s Ambassador Katelyn Chang and PPCC’s Youth Advisor Ella Nozar will address students’ perspectives on the Jan. 7 fire, while Evan Hall, the director of the House Museum, will share information on an effort to preserve architecturally significant chimneys from destroyed Palisades homes.

Project Chimney’s goal is to memorialize historically significant chimneys in the Pacific Palisades burn zone, including examples designed by architects Frank Lloyd Wright Jr., Paul R. Williams, and Richard Neutra, according to the House Museum press release. The organization has identified over 55 historically significant chimneys from multiple architectural styles, dating from the town’s 1922 founding and including “chimneys belonging to instrumental Palisadians such as Reverend Dr. Charles Scott, leader of the Methodist Episcopals, who once lived on Via De La Paz and living legend, actor Anthony Hopkins.”

“House Museum is working with community members to salvage and preserve select chimneys, leading to the creation of a permanent installation—The Palisades Fire Memorial,” according to the press release. “The proposed memorial will consist of free-standing fireplaces and chimneys, and be located on public land in the Pacific Palisades.”

More information about the House Museum is available here.
