City Councilwoman Traci Park and Team Palisades orchestrated a luncheon for elders that attracted an estimated 200 attendees to Rustic Canyon Park Thursday afternoon, according to resident Sharon Kilbride, the Canyon representative to the Pacific Palisades Community Council.
In addition to sandwiches from Palisdes Garden Café and desserts from K Bakery, speeches by the councilwoman, Mayor Karen Bass, and others were part of the event, which was particularly aimed at residents 65 years old and older to honor and celebrate the strength and spirit of local elders.
“Heartfelt speeches were delivered by legendary Sam Lagana and a poem [was shared] by Jimmy Dunne that brought a few people to tears,” Kilbride said. “The seniors were very appreciative to Councilwoman Park and Council District 11 staff for hosting the special event.”
During Mayor Bass’ speech, she reiterated her commitment to easing the permit process for any residents who lost their homes in the January fire. She promised that permitting for houses within 110 percent of their former size would take 30 days or less, and invited anyone who encountered a longer delay to reach out to her office.
The gathering also included time for socializing and connecting as people chatted and ate together.
“The event was a a huge success and really brought seniors together to enjoy a lovely afternoon,” Kilbride said.
