Gallery 169 Holds Concert and Art Event With Canyon Roots Tonight

A painting by Lucien Frank

Tonight, Gallery 169 will host an evening of art and music from young artists who grew up in Santa Monica Canyon from 5 to 9 p.m.

Artist Lucien Frank will be having his second show at Gallery 169.  Frank is following up his 2021 exhibition with a new series of paintings titled Wing Walking: Since the River Took Emmy Lou.  In an artist’s statement, Frank said that during the Covid outbreak, he spent months in solitude and reflection. Then a recent high school graduate, he explored and rediscovered the soothing familiarity of his childhood in the Canyon by delving into memories buried in the nature, both literally and physically, of his community.

The evening will also include musical performances from The Pan American Milleniall All Star Jazz Trio with Josh Lipp on guitar, Miles Hoegl on bass, and Will Rockwell on keys. Rockwell will have his own solo set featuring music from his newly released EP “Running Around the Bend.” The night will culminate with a performance from singer-song writer Ellery Harper, 23. In 2021, Ellery released his first EP, Lost at Sea, under the alias Crazy Mike and followed it with his 2022 single, Ace Hotel. Harper’s work has been called introspective with heartfelt lyrics and soothing vocals. “Songs like Poughkeepsie & Stranger” immediately draw the listener into Harper’s world,” a reviewer said.

The reception will offer complimentary valet parking.

Frank’s work will be on display through Wednesday from 9-5 or by appointment at Gallery 169 (169 W. Channel).
