This Saturday at 4:00 is Party Time for “Back to the Canyon 2” at Canyon Square
This coming Saturday, May 31, The Canyon’s little downtown on West Channel will come alive for “Back to the Canyon 2,” a community party from 4:00-7:00pm at Canyon Square (169 W. Channel) with music, food, a gallery opening, and a brief annual meeting meeting of the Santa Monica Canyon Civic Association (SMCCA).
The event is sponsored jointly by the newly formed Canyon Alliance and the Canyon Business Association. It will bookend “Back to the Canyon 1,” the memorable post-fire event on March 1 that drew nearly 400 Canyon residents together for a joyous reunion.

Canyon Square favorite RustiCoffee will be open, as will gourmet Canyon Grocer and fashion-forward Replenish. Neto’s Café will offer its popular burritos and other Mexican dishes. Upstairs at Gallery 169, Canyon photograph Kelly Sena will open a new show of her remarkable work. All the Canyon restaurants will be open - Caffe Delfini, Giorgio’s, Golden Bull, Muse - and Canyon residents are encouraged to support them by making advance reservations and filling up the tables after the big event.
Each May, SMCCA holds its annual members meeting. This year, with the annual election being online this week, the meeting will introduce new board members to the membership and encourage post-meeting mingling and conversation with the new directors, who represent all five of The Canyon neighborhoods, both in Rustic and S.M. Canyons.
“We’re combining a big, fun Canyon get-together with a short but important community meeting,” said Canyon Alliance director Doug Suisman. “We’re ready for a big turnout and a festive evening that we hope will continue all along West Channel on the sidewalks and in our wonderful restaurants, outside and in. It should be another Back to the Canyon night to remember.”
